Genesis HealthCare and Health Care REIT are
aligned toward excellence in a continuum of care.

Strong leaders in specialized care.

Genesis HealthCare is one of the nation’s largest post-acute and skilled nursing care providers, with over 200 locations in 13 Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, including over 120 clinical specialty units in transitional care, memory care, orthopedics, dialysis and ventilator care. Genesis also supplies contract rehabilitation therapy to over 1,100 health care providers in 28 states and the District of Columbia.

Founded in 1985 and based in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Genesis is a leading provider of short-term, post-acute, rehabilitation, assisted living and long-term care services. The Genesis team’s forward-thinking approach recognizes that coordination across the health care continuum is critical to efficient and effective health care delivery.

Post-acute platform capitalizes on evolving trends.

Trends in health care delivery models and reforms favor the Genesis post-acute platform as a lowercost alternative to hospitalization. Genesis’ forwardlooking approach includes the addition of over 120 clinical specialty units in recent years and a commitment to increase the number of physicians and nurse practitioners in its facilities. As patient care becomes increasingly complex, having facilitybased physicians is critical to ensure positive clinical outcomes. Additionally, the broader range of specialty units creates a smoother continuity of care between the hospital and Genesis facility, and positions the company for the future shift to shared accountability and partnerships between health care providers. These partnerships also provide the potential for referral relationships and a platform to share best practices between providers with the goal of lowering the cost of care while increasing the quality of care.

Committed to quality care.

Commitment to quality care is evident in the Genesis quality standards. These are not standards required by regulatory agencies or payors, but driven by the company’s commitment to clinical and operational excellence. This is demonstrated by the fact that 90% of patients are admitted from the hospital and 62% of Genesis patients are discharged to the home.

“We have built a pipeline of strong acquisition opportunities, but have been unable to pursue them. With Health Care REIT as our partner, we now have the vehicle to fund that growth.”
